Here is a recap of tonight’s(9/04) game courtesy of Brad Bennewitz:

                     “Galesburg High School compiled nearly 500 yards in total offense in a 49 – 8 win at LaSalle-Peru tonight (9/04/15) to even their record for the season at 1-1. DeAndre Moren was the rushing star of the night, 24 carries for 325 yards and two touchdowns, but Nick Myler also had a couple of touchdown runs. Fernando Diaz and Jacob Ross had touchdown runs as well. And Ross also found Jacob Carl on a pass reception for the 7th touchdown of the night as Galesburg found continuous clock with 11 minutes left in the game and cruised to their first win of the season.

                      “Silver Streaks now wrap up their non-conference schedule, at least the prior to the Western Big 6 as they take on Marion at home next Saturday at Van Dyke Field. It’ll be a 2 o’clock kick off and our pre-game next Saturday will come your way at about 1:30pm here on WGIL. Again, Galesburg wins it big, evens the record at 1-1 on the season, meanwhile the freshman lost the prior game 32-22. The Sophomores play LaSalle-Peru tomorrow(9/05).”

Galesburg Silver Streaks Girls Basketball vs Moline

The GHS girls basketball team dominated the Moline Maroons in a Western Big 6 match-up tonight at John Thiel Gym. Final score, 59-30. The Silver Streaks girls are now 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Western Big 6. Shayli Florine was named the Dave’s Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game for her strong play in the 2nd half, including a total of 17 points and 13 rebounds.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks take on the Raiders from East Peoria High School in their season opener tonight. You can hear the broadcast with the pre-game at 7:06 and the tipoff scheduled for 7:30 on Galesburg Radio 14 WGIL, here on our website wgil.com and TuneInRadio. Tom Meredith and Erik Gibson will bring you all the exciting action.

Interview: Josh Eiker, Craig Hillier

Josh Eiker will be a junior at Galesburg High School. He’s having a busy summer due to being one of the top sprinters in the country.

Josh Eiker placed 2nd in the 200 meters and 4th in the 100 at the Class AA IHSA State Track & Field meet. He broke the Class AA record in the 200 in the semifinals. That time qualified him to compete in the USATF Junior Nationals in Eugene, Oregon this weekend. He has since won his age group at the Illinois Junior Olympic meet in both the 100 and 200, breaking the state 200 record and setting a new Galesburg High School record in the 100. Josh and Streaks head track coach Craig Hillier joined us on the WGIL Morning News.

Ryan Hellenthal

Galesburg High School graduate Ryan Hellenthal is a new assistant men’s basketball coach at the University of Central Missouri.

Ryan finished his career as a Silver Streak in 1997. He graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago, where he served as a student assistant coach. His other coaching stops include a couple of the top JUCO programs in the country, Coffeyville and Garden City in Kansas, Boise State and most recently at Long Beach State for the past five seasons. He is now an assistant at the University of Central Missouri. We talked with Ryan on the WGIL Morning News.

The GHS Boys track & field team is wrapping up a very successful indoor season today @ the Illinois Prep Top Times meet in Bloomington. Head Coach Craig Hillier will be our first hour guest on “Galesburg Live” to talk about the indoor season, the upcoming outdoor season and great athletes he’s coached in the past.
