Galesburg Silver Streaks Football vs. Quincy Blue Devils

WGIL 297

Here is a recap of tonight’s game courtesy of WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:

“On a night of pendulum swings, that created for some exciting football at Quincy, the last pendulum swung in the favor of the Blue Devils who defeated the Galesburg Silver Streaks 35-32. With one week remaining in the regular season Galesburg is still seeking that elusive 5th victory that would make them play-off eligible for the IHSA play-offs. Quincy goes to 5-3 with their own victory, they are play-off eligible and they and the Silver Streaks finish at 3-2 tied for second with Moline in the Western Big 6, which was won by the Rock Island Rocks after a 15-14 win over Alleman.

“The offensive star of the night for the Silver Streaks was Nick Myler, we had him for 22 carries for 261yds and 5 touchdowns. Some key missed extra points put the Silver Streaks in a hole, they turned it over twice, and they had some costly penalties in the game that allowed Quincy to prevail by the 35-32 final. The home team has won in this head-to-head series each of the last 11 seasons and the last 5 games have come right down to the wire decided by overtime or 3pts or 2pts. So the rivalry is alive and well but Quincy gets the better of the Silver Streaks and for the moment keeps them out of play-off eligibility 35-32.”

Galesburg Silver Streaks Football vs. Rock Island Alleman Pioneers

WGIL 563

Here’s a recap of tonight’s game courtesy of WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:

“A crazy night of football at Rock Island’s Augustana College, which started with a lengthy power outage in Rock Island that delayed the game between the Silver Streaks and the Pioneers by a good 45 minutes, and ended up continuing on just as crazy as it could be. It was a bit of an offensive ‘power outage’ throughout the first half. Silver Streaks had a couple of touchdowns negated by one questionable fumble call and another negated because of a holding penalty. Both teams went to the locker rooms in a scoreless tie. Silver Streaks finally found the offense on a 9 yd touchdown pass from Jacob Ross to Nick Myler to open up the scoring in the 3rd quarter. And then they tacked on two touchdowns in the 4th Quarter, again a Ross to Myler connection of 57 yds which made it 14 to nothing.

“And then Fernando Diaz with a key interception on Alleman’s next to last possession of the game. He returned the ball down into Alleman territory, a 15 yd personal foul penalty moved the Streaks to the 26, then four plays later Nick Myler scored the third touchdown of the game which put the game out of reach. Galesburg also featured two goal line stands which kept Alleman out of the endzone and it resulted in Galesburg’s first back to back shut-out since 1990. They’re also alone in first place, 3-0 in the conference for the first time since 1991, with a chance to wrap up an outright conference title next Friday night at home when the Rock Island Rocks come to town.

“Silver Streaks sophomores lost a shortened game due to the power outage 16-7 but the varsity with a big win, 21-0 to spoil Alleman’s Homecoming.”

Galesburg Silver Streaks football vs. the United Township Panthers

WGIL 391

Here is a recap of tonight’s(9/25) game courtesy of WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:

“Galesburg Football team had some fun at the expense of the United Township Panthers at Van Dyke field tonight(9/25) routing UT 49-0 and the Silver Streaks really didn’t even have that great of a night offensively. They had two big defensive touchdowns to really open up the game. Tyree Mitchell had a 60yd interception return for a touchdown that was the Streaks 2nd score of the night and later in the game Jason Kelly Stripped the ball out of the UT Panthers’ quarterback’s hands and ran it back 92yds, the Streaks second defensive touchdown of the night and four turnovers forced against the Panthers.

“There was also a 49yd touchdown run by DeAndre MorenJacob Ross had a big touchdown, a 67yd pass to Nick Myler. So it was a big play night, but as big for the defense as much as anything as the Silver Streaks got their first shutout against an opponent since the opening game of the 2010 season when they defeated Chicago Academy. Galesburg’s now 3-2 on the season, more importantly 2-0 in the Western Big 6 Conference as they head up to Alleman next week for the Pioneers Homecoming at Augustana College. Galesburg sophomores also made a victory to complete the sweep on the night 27-12 over the UT sophomores.”

As Brad stated above, the boys will be playing again next Friday at Augustana College against the Alleman Pioneers. That game is set just a bit later than more recent ones with a pre-game time of 7:25 and kick-off looking to start at 7:40. You can catch all of the action on 93.7FM and 1400Am WGIL, WGIL.com or the TuneIn app with live play by play from Brad Bennewitz and Jim Lee.
