Galesburg police adds swears in two new officers Monday

Martin Luther King Jr. Day saw the Galesburg police adding more diversity to the force.  Monday morning, 24 year old Amber Schlomer and 27 year old Larry Cook II were sworn in as Galesburg’s newest officers. Fire and police Commissioner Naomi Law swore the two in inside the Galesburg City Council Chambers with GPD officers, city officials and Galesburg Fire personnel present. Adding another female officer in Schlomer, and another African-American officer in Cooks, Law proclaimed yesterday as being a “great day”. Captain Riggs welcomed both officers to the squad. The mothers of both officers were in attendance and had the opportunity to pin their new badges on them. The two will be attending police academy training in Champaign for 14 weeks before wearing the GPD badge. Schlomer is a Western Illinois grad with a degree in law enforcement and justice administration, as well as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve for the past five years. Cook is a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater grad where he studied criminology. The addition of the two officers brings the total to 49 total officers in Galesburg.
