Students in Galesburg’s elementary schools and at least one of the two middle schools could end up getting to have hot lunch for free during the school year if the Galesburg School Board so approves tonight. The District-205 Board is being asked this evening to vote on a proposal to sign the district up for a four-year agreement in the federal “Community Eligibility Provision.”
The District-205 Board met in special session yesterday to approve a $237,000 bid from Galesburg’s JP Benbow Plumbing and Heating to repair and replace the HVAC system in Mustain Pool, after it failed over the winter, causing problems for the Silver Streaks Swimming and Diving Teams, and P.E. classes that also use the facility.
POSTED 7pm 4/7/14 The Galesburg School Board tonight decided to take no action on whether to change course regarding building a new Silas Willard Elementary School; meaning, construction planning will go forward as is.
The lack of action was taken after board members, residents, and parents of Silas students discussed the matter at length.
The board has called a special session tonight that will have a closed-door session to discuss private meeting minutes, but they will later convene into open session to talk about Silas Willard Elementary School.
The district 205 board of education is hoping a new promotional video showcasing the district and Galesburg will help win over prospective residents.
Board members watched the 12 minute video that talked about what Galesburg has to offer future students and parents.
