Republican Jil Tracy has been named Minority Whip in the Illinois Senate.Senate Republican Leader Bill Brady appointed to Tracy to the new leadership role for the seasoned lawyer and lawmaker from Quincy.

Minority or majority whips are thought of as the enforcers of their caucus, ensuring party discipline and cohesion.

Brady says she’s been a “powerful voice” in the Senate, speaking on “complex state issues”, like school funding reform, veterans issues, legislative ethics and reporting of sexual assault and harassment.

A release from Senate Republicans also says she was crucial in securing capital funding to renovate the Quincy Veterans’ Home, when Legionnaire’s disease was discovered to have killed 14 residents.

Tracy served three terms in the House and was Kirk Dillard’s running mate when he ran for the Republican nomination for Governor in 2014 with the ticket eventually losing to Bruce Rauner by three points.

She was re-elected this month to a 4-year term representing the 47th District, which is comprised of southern parts of Galesburg, Monmouth, Macomb and Rushville.
