Manslaughter parolee picked up on gun crimes

Cody Delacruz mugA Galesburg man convicted in late 2013 of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 18-year-old Isaiah Stevenson was arrested on gun charges earlier this month.

According to police reports, 23-year-old Cody Delacruz was found in his home with a stolen nine millimeter handgun during a routine compliance check by a state parole officer.

Delacruz, who was sentenced to four and a half years in the Department of Corrections for the 2013 shooting, was released from prison on parole in March of this year.

Delacruz now faces charges of possession of weapons by a felon and possession of a stole firearm. Reports indicate the handgun, a Ruger P95, was reported stolen in August of this year in Atlanta, Georgia.

During his Oct. 7 court appearance, Delacruz pleaded not guilty and entered a demand for jury trial. He remains in the Knox County jail on $100,000 bond awaiting a November 2nd court appearance.
