While eyes around the world are fixed on screens watching the next president take the oath of office, 12-year-old Madelyn Brakeville will be standing on the national mall.
The Monmouth-Roseville seventh grader is one of 100 students nationwide that was chosen to be a part of the Envision Presidential Leadership Summit in January.

Brakeville’s journey to the nation’s capital began when her fifth grade teacher, Mr. Neighbors nominated her to attend Envision conference.

“I would always help him if he was helping another student,” Brakeville says. “I would either help that student or other students who needed help or had a question.”

That June conference gave her the opportunity to write an essay to have a chance to attend the presidential swearing in.

She’ll ride the train to the east coast with her parents. When she’s in D.C. she’ll also have the chance to ask questions to D.C. reporters.

Is Brakeville excited for the inauguration though?

“Yes and no,” Brakeville says. “I’m excited to see someone well known but not really the people there.”

Brakeville says that besides being a 4.0 student she was involved with a student leadership team at Central Intermediate School.

When’s school’s back in session, she’ll be in 7th at Monmouth-Roseville Junior High where she plans on being a part of the volleyball team.
