Local Foundation Makes More Local Gifts

A Galesburg foundation started in the wake of a passing of a local businessman is making some big donations once again to local organizations.

The G. L. Vitale Family Foundation — named for longtime G&M Distributors head Guy Vitale — announced yesterday that six groups will split $157,000 in gifts.

Orpheum TheatreThe head of Galesburg’s Orpheum Theatre says finances are on the upswing, as changes he’s making are starting to take hold.

Executive Director Kevin Maynard told the Knox County Civic Center Authority Board yesterday for the first five months of the year, the theatre took an approximately $30,000 loss.

Orpheum TheatreSome of the headaches patrons of Galesburg’s Orpheum Theatre may have had in the past trying to buy tickets for various shows may soon be a thing of the past.

That’s because the Knox County Civic Center Authority Board yesterday voted to give Executive Director Kevin Maynard the leverage to purchase a new ticketing system.

The group’s fundraising committee met yesterday to discuss strategy when improving the organization’s revenue structure.  Yesterday’s meeting covered topics such as a broader donor base, corporate donors, and legacy gifts made to the venue.
