Petersen Health Care opens Knoxville assisted living facility tomorrow

Courtyard Estates in Knoxville is set to open its doors to tenants starting tomorrow.

The assisted living center will offer 32 units, including seven memory care units.

Katy Carlson is the regional marketing coordinator with Petersen Health Care, the company in charge of the new facility.

She tells WGIL Courtyard Estates will offer the usual amenities, such as meals, housekeeping and laundry, as well as regular activities and outings.

“We go to wineries, we go to Bishop Hill, we go to Tanners,” Carlson says. “We can do a lot of fun things. We like to keep them busy.”

One big draw, Carlson says, is the “Betty’s Garden” memory care units. The units offer mind exercises and make sure tenants are active, through things like crafts and cooking.

“We were finding in assisted living after all these years, is that the one reason we were having to discharge people is that with their memory impairment, they were wandering and they were not safe. And that’s when we decided that we needed to start building these secure units for these specialized programs.”

Carlson says the facility is nearly at capacity with just six units still available.

Although the doors open tomorrow, a grand opening is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. January 7th.
