Primary elections being held today in Illinois

Voters in Illinois will go to the polls today to cast votes in primary elections.

Locally perhaps the race with the most consequence is for Warren County State’s Attorney.

Current Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew Stuckart and Thomas Siegel are the two Republican candidates that voters will choose from.

Without a Democrat of a third-party candidate running at this time, and Warren is a Republican-leaning county, the winner of the primary will be elected in November.

There are also a pair of ballot questions for taxpayers in the Knoxville 202 School District.

Voters will be asked whether kids of district teachers should be allowed to attend Knoxville schools tuition-free and whether the board should sell $1.1 million in bonds to finance artificial turf for the football field.

Superintendent Steve Wilder says the board feels like both are worthwhile initiatives but they wanted community input on these non-binding questions.

The Illinois Department of Public Health released guidelines on preventing the spread of COVID-19 at polling places, including frequent cleaning and disinfecting and offering voters hand sanitizer.
