12,000 eggs and a few hundred kids made for a wild and fun way to welcome in Spring yesterday.

The 28th Annual Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the City of Galesburg’s Recreation Department had hundreds of kids age 2 to 11 champing at the bit.

At 1 o’clock WGIL’s own Terry Cavanaugh counted down until the moment when kids in their age appropriate area were set loose to grab as many eggs as quickly as they could.

All were hoping to get a hold of a coveted golden egg which little hunter Eva tells WGIL she was able to do.

The spoils from Eva’s golden egg hunt netted her a stuffed rabbit but some were lucky enough to grab a grand prize of a bicycle.

This was the first Galesburg Easter Egg Hunt for relatively new Parks and Recreation Director Tony Oligney-Estill.

He was quick to heap praise on the event’s chief organizer Recreation Supervisor Elizabeth Varner.

“It’s my first time seeing it, but it’s very well run and obviously brings out a lot of people in this community,” Oligney-Estill says. “I can’t wait to be apart of it next year in the planning process.”

The event was sponsored by 105.3 KFM, HyVee and The Register Mail.
