Another area post office could soon bare the name of a fallen solider, after last week the U.S. Senate approved a bill to name Alpha’s Post Office after Army Captain Joshua E. Steele.Steele was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 17, 2007 while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Already haven served in Iraq and the Republic of Georgia, Steele was killed by a roadside bomb in Panjway, Afghanistan.

Steele knew he wanted to serve from a young age, and enlisted in 2002, just month after graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Missouri with a degree in geological engineering.

Rep. Cheri Bustos was the sponsor of the measure that she says is a way to recognize and commemorate Steele’s sacrifice back in his community.

Bustos has said that after the anticipated signing by President Donald Trump she will hold an event in Alpha to mark the renaming.

Bustos has been the chief sponsor of two bills this year that have dedicated themselves to fallen heroes.

In March, President Trump signed into law renaming Fairview’s office after Sgt. Douglas Riney and in July he did the same for Lance Corporal Jordan S. Bastean at the Pekin Post Office.
