Construction season is kicking off Monday with work getting underway in Wataga.

The Department of Transportation announced on Friday that work to prepare the intersection of Illinois 167 and Depot Road for culvert replacement will begin on March 9.

Preliminary work involves tree removal, relocating utilities, and temporary widening, and will require intermittent lane closures. The entire project is expected to be completed in November.

Motorists should expect delays and allow themselves extra time as they travel through the area. To avoid work areas, when feasible, the use of alternative routes should be considered.

IDOT says that drivers should pay close attention to changing conditions and signs in work zones, obey posted speed limits, and refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment in these areas.
