Rockford Airport Drawing Passengers with Amenities

ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — Rockford airport officials say enhanced amenities and international air service has translated into full flights and steady traffic.

Passenger numbers at Chicago Rockford International Airport increased 2 percent in January, though they leveled off in February.

Figures released this week show the airport served 20,978 passengers in January, compared with 20,104 during the month a year earlier.

The Rockford Register Star reports February’s numbers were almost unchanged from 2014.

Director Mike Dunn says an effort “to identify and provide the amenities most desired by our passengers” has paid off.

Deputy Director Amy Ott says an increase in international flights has also helped drive traffic. And she says having those flights full should attract more service.

Destinations served include Puerta Vallarta and Cancun, Mexico, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
