Architects working on the new Silas Willard Elementary School sent information to the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency informing them of their plans to demolish and build new.
The District-205 Board at a special meeting yesterday voted to approve the design development documents for construction of the new school, estimated to cost 18-million dollars by the time work is completed in 2016.
The Galesburg School Board will go back to the drawing board to figure out how to sell Cooke Elementary School.
That’s because the board this afternoon voted to reject both of the bids received for the just-closed facility: one from West Central Community Services Head Start for $200,000, and one from the Galesburg Rescue Mission for just over$279,000.
POSTED 7pm 4/7/14 The Galesburg School Board tonight decided to take no action on whether to change course regarding building a new Silas Willard Elementary School; meaning, construction planning will go forward as is.
The lack of action was taken after board members, residents, and parents of Silas students discussed the matter at length.
The board has called a special session tonight that will have a closed-door session to discuss private meeting minutes, but they will later convene into open session to talk about Silas Willard Elementary School.
Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations David Black told the school board’s Building Committee yesterday that the architects have asked to have a meeting April ninth on what to do about the building.
