Late last Sunday morning, Galesburg Police met with a 51-year-old Galesburg man who reported his bicycle was stolen. The man had not only video footage of the theft, but a tracking device on his bike due to a recent rash of thefts. The bike was tracked to South Academy Street where police located the bike, but the subject on the bicycle was not the subject in the video taking it. When police informed the man, who continually tried to walk away, that the bike was stolen, threw the bike down and denied stealing it. Due to his behavior, officers detained the 25-year-old man despite his continually resisting. The man said a friend let him borrow the bike. Dispatch then informed police of the location of the 47-year-old suspect who took the bicycle and he was then detained by police. The 47-year-old man told police he thought the bike had been left abandoned and that he never let the other man borrow it. The bike was returned to its owner. The 25-year-old man was charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Resisting a Peace Officer. The 47-year-old man was charged with Theft.
