Galesburg Police early Sunday afternoon (July 24th) observed a sedan in the Steak N’ Shake parking lot being driven by a Galesburg man with a long criminal history and a valid $100,000 Knox County Warrant. According to police reports, 19-year-old Nathan Cantu of Galesburg has fled from law enforcement several times in the last two years driving with no regard for the safety of the general public. Police followed Cantu’s vehicle south on North Henderson Street and attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the North Street intersection. As officers approached Cantu’s vehicle after he pulled over, Cantu sped off heading south on Henderson Street in the northbound lane of traffic. The vehicle reached speeds of over 70 miles an hour and continued through the Henderson Street / West Main Street intersection in the wrong lane of traffic.
