Suspect accused of beating man with billy club

A Galesburg resident accused of beating a man with a billy club appeared today in Knox County Circuit Court.

Doyle E. Hobbs faces two counts of aggravated battery with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon by a felon. Police reports show the 42 year old was arrested Friday for an attack reported July 4.

During that incident, the victim told police he went to an East Fifth Street apartment to collect money from Hobbs. Once inside, Hobbs attacked with a billy club, striking the victim as many as 20 times.

The victim was taken to Galesburg Cottage Hospital for treatment of fractures to both hands. A $150,000 warrant was issued Friday for Hobbs’s arrest.

Judge Stephen Mathers continued bond at $150,000. Hobbs remains in the Knox County jail awaiting a Wednesday court appearance.
