Theft of 50 guns from Springfield store gang-related: police

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Springfield police say the theft of more than 50 guns from a firearms dealer last week was gang-related. The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that police announced the arrest this past week of two adults and two juveniles in the Oct. 9 break-in at Letz Hunt and Sport.

The adults include 19-year-old Jimmie Burge of Springfield. He is charged with possession of a stolen firearm, no valid firearms card, theft and criminal damage to property. An 18-year-old Chatham man could face burglary and theft charges.

Police say Burge and the other adult and possibly others kicked in the door to the business about 10 p.m. Oct. 9.

Police arrested two juveniles last week too. Police say all four are tied to a local gang but refused to name the gang.
