Vaccine Center closing, clinics to move to Health Department

The Knox County Unified Command Vaccine Center, located at the old Bergener’s store, is closing at the end of this week.

Beginning on Monday, September 12, Knox County’s COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics will move to the Health Department, located at 1361 West Fremont St.

With the move, vaccinations at the health department will be by appointment only on Mondays and Fridays from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Scheduling an appointment can be done by calling (309) 344-2224.

“As we transition to providing COVID-19 vaccines into the Health Department, I want to thank the residents of Knox County and surrounding areas for helping to protect our community during the COVID-19 pandemic” states Michele Gabriel, Public Health Administrator.

She adds that “getting vaccinated continues to be the best way to protect yourself, your family, friends, and your community. Increasing the rate of COVID-19 vaccination and boosters in our communities will help protect against COVID-19.”

The Knox County Health Department will continue following the recommendations of the Illinois Department of Public Health, Food and Drug Administration, and Center for Disease Control and Prevention for COVID-19 vaccines and continue offering the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.

The Pfizer primary vaccine is authorized for infants six months of age and up. Adolescents five and older are recommended to get a first booster shot at least five months after completing the primary series.

The Moderna primary vaccine is authorized for anyone six months of age and older. Adults 18 and older are recommended to get a first booster shot at least five months after completing the primary series.

Second Booster shots of Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are recommended for individuals aged 50 and older at least four months after the initial booster vaccine.

Second Booster shots of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are recommended for Children and teens ages 12-17 years who are moderately or severely immunocompromised at least four months after the initial booster vaccine.
