Chicago Mom Charged in 8-year-old Son’s Accidental Shooting

CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago mother has been charged after her 8-year-old son accidentally was shot while playing with a gun inside their apartment.

The Chicago Police Department says 31-year-old Micquelyn Biles is charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and one misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

The department says Biles’ son and another boy found the gun in the apartment Tuesday morning. Police say the gun accidentally went off when the children were handling it, and Biles’ son was struck in the abdomen.

The boy was brought to a local hospital, where he’s listed in good condition.

Police say Biles lied to them about knowing there was a gun in the house.

It wasn’t immediately known if she has an attorney.
