17 and 15—those were the two voter turnout percentages tallied within Knox County and the City of Galesburg following Tuesday’s elections.
Knox County Clerk Scott Erickson says the county turnout was higher than in 2011. Slightly fewer than 16 percent showed up at the polls four years ago.
Meanwhile, Galesburg Election Officials reported that turnout was higher as well. According to election archives—13.73 percent of registered voters were documented from the 2011 elections.
The Election Day totals paired well with early voting numbers within the city. Elections Executive Director Lisa Watson says 558 cast a ballot in some fashion before Election Day. That number was up from 313.
Results could be credited to various precincts. Ward one Precinct one boasted the highest turnout around 32 percent, while Ward three Precinct nine was the worst, coming in at seven percent.
Erickson says he was pleased with Tuesday’s turnout. According to the unofficial results, 2,708 ballots were cast.
