Illinois Baseball Field Caters to Those with Disabilities

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — A central Illinois man’s dream will come true this weekend with the opening of a new baseball field for players with disabilities.

The Bloomington Pantagraph reports that Uncle Bill’s Miracle Field will open Saturday in Normal. It’s made with a synthetic surface to make it easier for players to get around, particularly if they use wheelchairs, walkers or canes.

The field was the idea of the late Bill Wright, a businessman who founded Miracle League of Central Illinois in 2009. It serves dozens of children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities.

Mike Wright of Bloomington says it’ll be emotional to see his father’s dream come true. Bill Wright died in 2012.

The first games played on the field will be at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
