Chicago-Area Man Accused of Threatening Emanuel, Others

CHICAGO (AP) — A 29-year-old ride-sharing driver is accused of using Facebook to threaten Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and others.

A federal judge in Chicago on Monday ordered Mohammad Waqas Khan held pending trial.

A recently unsealed complaint says Khan wrote on his Facebook page on May 13 that Emanuel had “led the city of Chicago down the road to perdition.” He allegedly called the mayor and unnamed Chicago aldermen “rabid dogs” and says, “You shall be taught a lesson you will not forget!”

The complaint says DuPage County Sherriff’s police arrested the Glen Ellyn man on May 14 for violating Illinois’ concealed-carry law after finding a loaded pistol in his car. He was later charged federally with transmitting a threatening communication.

A message for his attorney, Ellen Domph, wasn’t returned Monday.
