Man, Dog Fatally Shot Before House Fire Near Rockton

ROCKTON, Ill. (AP) – The Winnebago County coroner’s office says a man found dead Saturday after a fire ravaged his home had been shot to death.
Coroner Sue Fiduccia said Tuesday that 67-year-old Henry Murphy was killed before the fire was set at his home near Rockton. Murphy’s dog was also shot to death.

The Rockford Register Star reports Winnebago County Chief Deputy Mark Karner says no arrests have been made in the case. He also didn’t discuss a possible motive for the killing.

Fiduccia said she could not say how many times or where on the body Murphy was shot because of the ongoing investigation.
