Estate of Man Killed in Elevator Shaft Seeks Records

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) – The estate of a McLean County worker killed in an elevator accident is seeking maintenance records for the lift.
The estate of John Hoeniges has filed a court petition asking for records including information on all contractors and sub-contractors that may have worked on the elevator at the Law and Justice Center.

The 56-year-old maintenance man was found dead May 26 in an elevator shaft. An autopsy found he died of blunt force trauma and compressional asphyxia.

James Ginzkey, a lawyer for the estate, told The (Bloomington) Pantagraph the county has rejected previous requests for information and permission to test the elevator.

An attorney for the county declined to comment on the filing Tuesday. County officials have said the elevator was inspected and no malfunctions were found.
