NORMAL, Ill. (AP) – Normal’s fire chief says fire trucks might soon get to emergencies quicker than they do now thanks to a land swap between the city and Illinois State University. The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that Chief Mick Humer says the land swap approved by the City Council this week and by the school’s board of trustees last month will improve response times.
Humer says putting the fire station on North Main Street near the Illinois State campus will be helpful because the school accounts for the highest number of calls. And City Manager Mike Peterson says the new station will improve response times throughout the west side of the city.
Work on the new station is expected to begin next spring and be finished by next fall.
