Locally, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos reiterated her support of that funding. The East Moline Democrat says in a press release, that she was “proud to help lead the bipartisan effort to bring federal dollars back to Illinois.”
Bustos adds that the measure will “strengthen our agricultural economy and keep good paying jobs within the state.”
In June, the Congresswoman reportedly wrote a letter asking Governor Bruce Rauner to apply for funds. Then in July, Bustos added her name alongside 12 others in the Illinois delegation asking Vilsack to include Illinois in the grant process.
According to the USDA, the money will pay for about 5,000 at more than 1,400 stations throughout the country. In Illinois, that accounts to approximately 430 pumps. All 21 states will be required to match grant funds they receive.
