The selection committee to replace incoming Congressman Darin LaHood’s Senate seat in the 37th district made their decision yesterday.
The Peoria Journal Star reported that Chuck Weaver, a Peoria City Councilman, will be the replacement.
Weaver was selected by a committee of 10 county Republican party leaders, including Knox County GOP Chairman Wayne Saline.
Saline told WGIL last week that the decision would come yesterday and that 10 applicants were in the running.
Weaver is expected to give up his city council seat when he assumes the Senate position.
He will serve out the remainder of LaHood’s term which lasts until January of 2017.
The 37th encompasses parts of Knox, Bureau, Henry, LaSalle, Lee, Marshall, Mercer, Peoria, Stark and Woodford counties.
