Police pulled Davis into the parking lot of La Mesa Inn. Officers had heard previous complaints that he was in possession of drugs and firearms.
A police K-9 unit was called to the scene where it alerted to the presence of drugs. Davis was asked out of the vehicle and his car was searched.
Upon inspection authorities found under the driver’s seat a 9 millimeter handgun with a round in the chamber in addition to a loaded magazine that held seven rounds.
Davis claimed that he didn’t know anything about the gun and he recently had switched cars with someone.
A small plastic bag of cannabis was also located and seized.
Davis is being charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon with out a Firearm Owners Identification Card as well as a various traffic violations.
He also has a pending charge of aggravated battery from an incident in April.
