Helen K. Anderson, 95, a resident at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, formerly of Galva, died at 11:20 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the manor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 12 at the First Baptist Church in Galva. Pastor Don Reul will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the New Windsor Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church Food Pantry. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements.
Helen was born January 15, 1920 in Viola, IL, the daughter of Albert and Florence (Peterson) Swanson. She married Virgil E. Anderson on September 22, 1939 in Moline and he preceded her in death on March 9, 1974. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Lavonne Townsend, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by a son, Duane (Ann) Anderson of Altona, six grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and her sister, Jean Hier of Galesburg.
She attended schools in Viola. She had farmed with her husband which included milking cows. She had also worked at the Galva Foundry, Empire Leather Factory and for the ladder factory in Galesburg. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Galva where she had been active in various church activities including Women’s Bible Study and the Women’s Church Group. She had also enjoyed bowling.
