Galesburg Silver Streaks Boys Basketball vs. St. Charles East Fighting Saints

Here is a recap of tonight’s game from WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:

“The Galesburg Boys Basketball team survived a tight one tonight for it’s 18th consecutive win to go 26-1 on the season, holding off a tough St. Charles East team 54-53. The Saints got the last shot to win it after the Streaks missed the front end of a one and one twice, to build a potentially winning score, but they denied St. Charles East on an in-bounds pass and any kind of a decent look at a 3-point basket from the corner that would have won it and the Silver Streaks have now won 18 in a row. That’s the 4th longest winning streak in school history.

“Galesburg put 4 players in double figures tonight, led by Ethan Meeker with 10 of his 13 points, including that defensive stop. This follows the 40 point win over Alleman last night, which put the Streaks 7-0 in the Western Big 6 with a 2 game lead over their nearest competitor, the Quincy Blue Devils. Galesburg has only one game next week, that’ll be at Moline Friday night. Always a tough place to play at Wharton Field House, as the Silver Streaks try to secure that lead in the confernece. And that’ll follow a big game for the Galesburg Girls coming up next week as well as they try to knock off Rock Island in John Thiel Gym for the final game of the regular season and clinch a share of the Western Big 6 Conference title with the Rocks.

“So another big week of basketball coming up for Galesburg Highschool. Hope you can be with us Thursday night for the girls against Rocky and Friday night for the boys at Moline.”

Our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game tonight was Ethan Meeker. He had 13 points in the game. The other 3 players to hit double figures, as mentioned above, are Jarret Olson who had 11 points, Kivontay Shaw also came away with 11. Devyn Ross had 10 points to add. And Cody Hawthorne is also worth mentioning as he added 7 rebounds of his own. This win did make for the 18th straight win for the Streaks. It also means they are 18-0 at home with only one regular season game left to play.

The Streaks next game will be next Friday at Moline. Pre-game time for that one is set for 6:06 and tip off is scheduled to go at 6:30. You can catch all the action with a live play by play from Brad Bennewitz and Jim Lee on 93.7FM and 1400AM WGIL, WGIL.com, or on TuneIn radio.
