
Clell Edward “Ed” Simpson, 75 of Abingdon, passed away at 3:27 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
He was born November 29, 1940 in Abingdon, the son of Merle and Irma Kilpatrick Simpson. He married Marsha Kay Lefler on December 2, 1967 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on December 2, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Waneta Quinn, Carmen Thrasher and Carol Lewis, and four brothers, Roger, Jerry, Merle “Sam”, and Terry.
Ed is survived by two sons, Bryan Simpson of Abingdon and Steve (Mickey Stone) Simpson of Abingdon; six grandchildren, Kristin (Brett) Carley, James Dale Simpson, Jason Edward Simpson, Rayven Lynn Simpson, Olivia Simpson and Nathanial Simpson and one great-grandchild, Cash Carley; one brother, Billy Simpson residing in the state of Washington; two sisters, Cleta Boydstun of Abingdon and Joyce Fishel of Abingdon; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
He had lived in Abingdon most of his life. He worked at Gunther Construction in Galesburg as a concrete finisher for many years. He was a member of Union Local # 538. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, watching old western movies and reading Louis L’Amour books.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
