The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball season came to an end last night as they fell to Washington 58-51 in overtime. It was a tight battle throughout. Washington jumped out to an early lead and were up 14-11 at the end of the 1st quarter. Galesburg came back to outscore the Panthers 20-6 in the 2nd and led 21-20 at halftime.
The Streaks seemed to be in control at points in the 2nd half as they built as much as a 6 point lead. But Washington hung tough and took a 1 point lead with less than :10 to play. Raina Gully rebounded a missed 3 and was fouled on the putback attempt with a 10th of a second on the clock. She made one of two free throws to tie the game and send it to o.t.
Raina was our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game. The game was tied at 47 heading into the extra period. The Panthers took control, outscoring the Streaks 11-4 in the overtime. Shayli Florine led Galesburg with 19 points and 7 rebounds in her final game. Kaylah Townsell added 13 points and 5 assists. The Streaks converted on just 15 of 25 free throws and were out-rebounded 37-24.
The Streaks wrap up an outstanding season with a 30-4 record.
