Velma J. Wadhams, 84, of Aledo, IL, formerly of New Windsor , IL died Sunday April 10, 2016 at home. Services are 2 P.M. Thursday April 14, 2016 at Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor. Burial is in the Calvary Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha where memorials may be left to the Calvary Lutheran Church. Online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

Velma was born May 30, 1931 in Eliza Township; Mercer County, IL to William and Ruth Blaisdell Taylor. She graduated from Joy High School in 1949. She married Melvin J. Wadhams August 26, 1950 at Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor, IL. He died October 17, 1995. 

Velma was Homemaker. Prior to her marriage she was a nurses aide at St. Anthonys Hospital in Rock Island, IL and Mercer County Hospital in Aledo. She briefly worked at the Alpha Diner in Alpha, Illinois.

Her memberships include the Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor where she served on the Church Council and the Fern Leaf Society.

She enjoyed flower gardening, embroidery and writing. Velma especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by three daughters, Connie (Jim) Bethell of Woodhull, IL; Kathy (John) Ping of New Windsor, IL; Linda (Rick) King of Aledo, IL, 4 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren, 3 step great-great grandchildren 2 sisters, Lois McCormick of Aledo, Twila Lynn of Moline, Il and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two infant children, one step grandson, and three sisters.
