EAST PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — East Peoria residents are burying a time capsule with the city hall they’re about to open.
It’s actually a “time tube,” reports the Journal Star in Peoria. It’s an eight-inch-wide PVC pipe which residents are invited to sign at a May 21 ceremony.
Descendants who open the tube in 2066 will find 59 or more items including a golf ball from Quail Meadows, an East Peoria history book written by newspaper editor Jeanette Kendall, a “no smoking” sign, and fire and police department patches.
There will also be a chunk of rebar from the Caterpillar Inc. factory that once stood on the site, and a VISA debit card with an explanation that it was used to make store purchases with funds coming straight from the holder’s bank.
