Albert Samuel “Sam” Allen, 71 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Rosewood Care Center of Galesburg.
He was born May 31, 1945 in Avon, the son of Albert Ardell Allen and Juanita Butterfield Allen. He married Marlene Rosenberry on June 4, 1966 in East Galesburg.
Sam is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marlene; one daughter, Melinda Stephens of Galesburg; two sons, Dustin Stevenson of the state of Washington and Joey Allen of the state of Nebraska; 6 grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald Allen of Galesburg and Jerry (and Teresa) Allen of Abingdon; one sister, Jenny Parks of Galesburg; and nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Herbert, Donald and Edwin.
Sam lived in the Abingdon and Galesburg areas all his life. He worked at Maytag in Galesburg and later worked as a laborer for White Roofing in Galesburg. He attended the First Christian Church in Galesburg. His hobbies included taking care of his yard, fishing, playing card games with Marlene, watching western movies. He was an animal lover and loved spending time with his cat “Mischief”.
Cremation will be accorded. Private services will be held at a later date. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
