The Knox County Board approved last night the appointment of a new member to the County Board of Health.
Dan Harris is a Galesburg native and Knox College alum who recommended by the Board of Health at their June 9 meeting.
Harris is replacing Jackie Turner who is leaving the board after over two decades serving.
He tells WGIL he’s looking forward to serving his community.
“My family and I just moved back a couple of years ago and I feel an obligation to give back to the community,” Harris says. “My skill set, the jobs that I’ve held over the last few years, seem to be a good match for the Board of Health.”
Dr. Sam Fox was also renewed as a board of health member.
Board members also approved ordering engineering and architectural designs to Klinger & Associates for an access road to the Knox County Nursing Home.
The cost for the designs is $28,500 but should the road be built it would come with a nearly $250,000 estimated price tag.
In other business, there was some resistance to approving the prevailing wage.
Member Dick Conklin expressed resentment with being made to vote on a measure that is mandated by statute.
Conklin along with members John Hunigan, Bob Bondi and Shawn Pittman voted against adopting the prevailing wage anyway.
