Chicago trio arrested for meth manufacturing materials

Three men from the Chicago area are in the Knox County Jail charged with possessing meth manufacturing materials.
Galesburg police stopped a vehicle traveling west on E. Fremont after a suspicious person report was called in from a residence just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Sixty-seven- year-old Shelby Clifton Jr. was driving and 29-year old Gregory Shell Jr. and 36-year old Isaiah M. Hill were passengers.

Clifton was wearing blue surgical gloves, telling officers he was cleaning before leaving home and didn’t remove them. 

A Galesburg K-9 unit was called in and alerted. 

Officers found an assortment of pseudoephedrine pills in the vehicle totaling 24,000 milligrams.

The three men were arrested and taken to the Knox County Jail where they were charged with a class 2 felonies for possessing meth manufacturing materials. 

Bond was set over the weekend for each at $50,000.

Judge Stephen Mathers appointed a public defender for Hill this afternoon in Knox County Circuit Court. Hill will appear in court next at 11 a.m., Friday

Clifton and Shell both indicated they would also be requesting a public defender and will reappear Friday at 9 a.m.
