An Altona man charged in a Galesburg home invasion appeared via video in Knox County Circuit Court, today.
Twenty-year-old Clair Whiteside III faces a Class X felony count of home invasion for the alleged offense that took place, Nov 19. The charge carries a minimum sentence of six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Whiteside entered the residence at 1578 McKnight St. and battered a man who was unclothed with Whiteside’s ex-girlfriend.
The man was scratched and slapped when Whiteside attacked. A warrant was then issued for his arrest on the home invasion charge.
According to the Assistant State’s Attorney, Whiteside was arrested Thursday after being picked up on a meth possession charge of more than five but less than 15 grams of the substance.
Judge Stephen Mathers set bond at $7,000 and appointed a public defender to the case. $5,000 in bail had already been set for the meth charge and an additional $2,000 was added today for home invasion.
Whiteside will re-appear Wednesday at 11 a.m.
