Margie Champion Byers, 89, of Macomb, formerly of Roseville, passed away at 12:14 AM Friday, December 16, 2016 at The Elms in Macomb, IL.She was born August 22, 1927, in McDonough County, Illinois, the oldest daughter of Orlo and Erma Champion.
Margie grew up near Macomb and was a 1945 graduate of Good Hope Community High School. She attended Gem City Business College in Quincy.
Margie married Pvt. Bill Byers on April 21, 1946, in Alexandria, Virginia. Upon Bill’s discharge from the Army in 1947, they returned to Illinois and farmed in Warren County until his death on September 25, 1986.
Margie was a member of Swan Creek United Methodist Church and a former member of Home Bureau. Margie supported church and school activities while raising her family.
Margie enjoyed quilting, knitting, reading, listening to music, baking, and especially sewing. Her family will always remember her fresh baked pumpkin bread, cookies, and muffins.
Margie is survived by children Randy (Judy) Byers, Ronnie (Barb) Byers, Linda Byers, and Kenny (Susan) Byers; grandchildren Rodney (Ginger) Byers, Roberta (Lance) Tarochione, Dan (Melissa) Byers, Jen (Jeff) Podhajsky, Roger Byers, Brian (Amanda) Byers, Amanda (Joel) Newman, Kevin Byers, and Blake Byers; and several great-grandchildren. Margie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday December 20, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Howard White Officiating. Visitation will be Monday, December 19, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
