
Barrie Schaffer, 70, of Abingdon, passed away at 1:34 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born May 22, 1946 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galesburg, the daughter of Lyle W. and Helen Barrie Swankie Dunlap. She married Edward “Dan” Johnson. She later married Lyle Michael Bair and then Ronald Dean Schaffer.
Barrie is survived by one son, Mark D. (Chrystal) Johnson of Macomb: one daughter, Jennifer (Matt) Foist of Temecula, California; five grandchildren, Lexi (Ben) Bruce, Jess Adkisson, Matthew Adkisson, Kyle Johnson and Cassidy Smith; her father, Lyle Dunlap of rural Galesburg; and one sister, Heather (Mark) Rice of Los Angeles, California.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Dunlap, her daughter, Kelli Johnson-Smith, and her daughter-in-law, Lisa Johnson.
Barrie graduated from Waipahu High School in Oahu, Hawaii. She had lived most of her adult life in Abingdon. She worked at OMC/Gale Products in Galesburg until it closed and later she worked for over 20 years at Admiral/ Maytag in Galesburg. She last worked as a caregiver at the Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth. Her hobbies included cooking, making crafts, reading novels, gardening, bowling and sun bathing.
Cremation will be accorded. To celebrate her life, a memorial visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Private burial of her ashes will be at a later date in the Abingdon Cemetery.
