Rosa M. Smith, 96, of rural Galesburg, died at 12:10 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 in Rosewood Care Center.
She was born September 21, 1920, in Henderson Township, the daughter of Edwin O. and Edna M. (Ellickson) Smith.
She is survived by two brothers, Harold Smith of Galva and Harvey Smith of Galesburg; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harry and Roy; two sisters, Mabel and Ellen; and a sister in infancy.
Rosie had worked at Kresge’s, Kline’s, and J.C. Penney’s Department Stores before going to work at Protexall. She retired in 1982 after 28 years. She was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Henderson Grove. Rosie was baptized there as an infant and was confirmed in 1936. She was active there with W.E.L.C.A. and was a Sunday school teacher.
Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in Henderson Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
