CHICAGO (AP) — Most existing dining options at Chicago’s Midway Airport are about to close.
The Chicago Tribune reports that 21 of the airport’s restaurants, bars and cafes will shutter over a nine-day period starting Friday. The closures will make way for new venues as part of a $75 million concession-area renovation. That overhaul is part of a larger project to modernize the airport announced by Mayor Rahm Emanuel in 2015.
Existing vendors had to gain approval from a new concession operator to remain open. Only Reilly’s Daughter Pub, Gold Coast Dogs, Pegasus and Nuts on Clark will remain.
Nineteen new restaurants slated to open will offer more upscale food services. The list includes True Burger, Pizza Vino, and Tabo Sushi.
Most replacement venues will open the morning after their predecessors close.
