Urbana revamps oldest and largest park in $5.4M overhaul

URBANA, Ill. (AP) — The oldest and largest park in Urbana is getting a $5.4 million overhaul.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports the first of three phases to fix up Crystal Lake Park is almost complete. A second phase involving a shoreline restoration has already started.

The last phase will involve new trails, pedestrian bridges and landscaping.

Urbana Park District Executive Director Tim Bartlett says the project will rely on capital funds for now. But the head of the park district’s foundation says they hope to attract other funds, including private donations.
