TUSCOLA, Ill. (AP) — A man wrongfully convicted of a 1993 murder plans to ask the Illinois Supreme Court to review the dismissal of his lawsuit against the town of Normal and three former police officers.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports Alan Beaman claims the town and former officers conspired to frame him. Beaman served 13 years in prison in the death of Illinois State University student Jennifer Lockmiller before DNA evidence pointed to other suspects.
Friday’s ruling from the Fourth District Appellate Court leaves in place another judge’s previous ruling to dismiss Beaman’s lawsuit against the town and former officers. Beaman’s attorney says they will ask for the high court review.
The Illinois Supreme Court vacated Beaman’s conviction in 2009. He received a certificate of innocence and a pardon and is now living in Rockford.
