22-bed central Illinois hospital to get major upgrade

PANA, Ill. (AP) — A central Illinois hospital will undergo a $20 million renovation for what officials say will be more convenience and comfort for patients and visitors.

Officials for the Pana Community Hospital will break ground for the construction Thursday at 3 p.m.

Trina Castor is chief executive officer for the 22-bed hospital in Christian County.

She says officials determined it was the right move to keep the hospital in this town of 5,600 financially stable and viable.

The project includes a two-story addition with a basement at the rear of the hospital. It will house a cafeteria, kitchen, laboratory and surgical suite.

The first major construction on the facility since the 1970s will be completed by spring 2019.

Pana is 220 miles (354 km) southwest of Chicago.
