
Marie A. Colburn, 97, of Galesburg, died at 6:15 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2017 in Marigold Health Care Center.
She was born February 17, 1920, in Alexis, the daughter of Gustaf “Oscar” and Anna (Nelson) Peterson. She married Earl I. Colburn on June 8, 1941, in North Henderson. He preceded her in death December 8, 1993.
She is survived by three children, Barbara (and Vern) Jackson of Bettendorf, Iowa, Donald K. Colburn of Galesburg, and JoAnne (and James) Hale of Mineral Wells, Texas; two granddaughters, Stephanie Jackson and Melissa Jackson; a step grandson, Andy Lobb; two great grandchildren; and one great- great-grandson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; three sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Colburn.
Marie was raised in the Rio area, graduating from Alpha High School in 1938. She attended Augustana College, studying art. She had lived in Galesburg since after World War II. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its circle. Marie was a volunteer with Galesburg Cottage Hospital in the gift shop for many years. She enjoyed tending to her and Earl’s roses and her houseplants, especially African Violets.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral will follow at 2 p.m. at the chapel. Rev. Frank Langholf will officiate.
