Connie L. “Missie” Nelson, 68 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 6:47 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.She was born September 9, 1949 in Greenbush, the daughter of Hassell W. and Wilma R. Shumaker Cox.
Missie is survived by one daughter, Amy Patch-Monroe (Mike) of Galesburg and one son, Dan Patch (Brenda Doud) of Abingdon; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Richard Cox of Arlington, Texas and Jan “Toby” Cox of Galesburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She had lived in Abingdon most of her life and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1967. She retired from the John Mosser Public Library, where she worked as the children’s librarian. She attended the Church of God of Prophecy. She recently moved to the Woodridge Supportive Living in Galesburg.
Cremation will be accorded. To celebrate her life, the family will receive friends in a time of food and fellowship at a gathering at 6 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Church of God of Prophecy, 207 N. Washington St. in Abingdon. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with cremation arrangements and announcements.
