Galesburg Silver Streaks Boys Basketball vs Peoria High Lions

The final score may not reflect it, but the Galesburg Silver Streaks got off to a little bit of a slow start before coming up big in the second and fourth quarters, to knock off the Peoria High Lions 69-52 in the first of two at the Martin Luther King Tournament at Galesburg High School.

Our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game led the Streaks off the bench.  Jaylin McCants was huge, especially with offensive rebounds and putbacks.  He finished with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds — both career highs on the varsity level.  Cornell Dotson and Khalil Hodge also finished in double figures.  They each had 17, as the Silver Streaks won their third consecutive game to go to 15-6.

The Silver Streaks will now have to knock off Dunlap tonight for a chance to win their own tournament, but they’ll need some help.  The Streaks and Rockford East are tied in the tournament at 3-1.  Rockford East needs to lose to Minooka tonight, and the Silver Streaks need to beat Dunlap in order to win their own tournament.  Otherwise, they’ll finish with a tie, and Rockford East has the benefit of the tie-breaker by virtue of their win over Galesburg a little more than a week ago.

The Streaks picked up two wins on Saturday and sit at 14-6. Brad Bennewitz and Steve Cheeseman have the action at 10:06 for the pregame ad a 10:30 tip on WGIL.
